3/30/10
While in Tucson visiting family I drove to Ryan Field and rented a 172. Instead of doing the standard checkout required for rental, I just took their CFI along as a tour guide.
Ryan Airport is a towered Class D airport with three runways. We took off on runway 6R and landed on 6L.
Yesterday we visited Pima Air Museum and toured the boneyard so it was cool to fly over it today. Since both Tucson International and Davis Monthan AFB are part of the same Class C airspace we needed a squak code and clearance to enter. To be above the landing jets, we were cleared to circle the boneyard at 5500MSL. It sounds high but the ground is about 2700MSL so it was about perfect.
